This past week, the Austin Business Journal dove into the statistics for the banking and financial services industry in the Austin area. The result is the following series of lists which gives good insight into the composition of the region's financial powerhouses.

The Austin area has 15 banks headquartered in our five-county coverage area that spans Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell counties. Ranked by local deposits as reported to the FDIC June 30, 2014, Georgetown-based First Texas Bank continues to hold on to the top spot. The combined total deposits of all listmakers as of June 2014 was $3 billion compared to $2.6 million last year. Likewise, assets grew to $4.75 billion, up from $4.2 billion the year before.
Although not part of the top three, R Bank based in Round Rock saw the biggest jump in deposits from $166.2 million in June 2013 to $229.4 million in June 2014, a 38.3 percent increase.
Since last year's list, Libertad Bank has re-branded and changed its name to Austin Capital Bank. First State Bank of Central Texas is in the process of being acquired by Tupelo, Miss.-based Bancorp South Inc.
